The Southwest Waterfront neighborhood of the District, already undergoing transformation through the Wharf development on the river, is getting a new mixed-use project that will include 221 apartments.
High Street Residential, the housing subsidiary of Trammell Crow Co. and CSG Urban Partners, has collaborated with Meadow Partners to redevelop the St. Matthew’s Evangelical Lutheran Church site at 222 M St. SW. A new 16,000-square-foot church and a community center will be part of the project.
St. Matthew’s apartments will include a first-floor lounge overlooking a courtyard, a dog run, a fitness center with private rooms for yoga and spin classes, and a bike storage and maintenance space. The rooftop swimming pool and deck will have views of the Capitol building.
The church and community center will include a coffee shop, a hall for meetings, computer access, a worship space that can also host performances and a gallery space for local artists. Construction is anticipated to begin soon, with the apartments expected to be complete in the third quarter of 2018.
